Reputation Management With Google Suggest Results

December 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Google search is the most powerful search engine on the web today. The reason for this is the development work that goes day in and day out to enhance, tweak, and supercharge the engine. One such powerful feature is Google Suggest. This initially started off as a Google Labs project (as do most other features) and quickly hit the main search engine. Tool has become powerful addition and is now taken for granted by anyone who uses Google Search.

However if you are webmaster getting your website into Suggest needs some work. To give some measure of how things stand, Twitter was non-existent on Suggest in its early days. It was not until Twitter gained mainstream popularity that it started appearing on Google Suggest. So the basic premise is, the more popular your website the more it will appear in varying combinations in Suggest. This is where reputation management comes in.

To understand Google Suggest you must know the rules it uses when displaying results.

1. Previous search history stored in the browsers cache.
2. Most searched for phrase
3. Direct access to the navigational link

You can improve your standing in searches by:

1. Optimizing your homepage to include the domain name and popular search phrases as keywords.
2. Search on local and international Google sites and see how your site shows up or if it shows up at all.
3. Participate in blogs, forums, and link out to your website using keywords which contain the domain name and other popular terms
4. Open a Google AdWords account. Then go about creating advertisements containing a good mix of the domain name and popular key phrases.
By using these methods you should soon see an improvement in the traffic to your website.

Long Tail Keywords – The Web Traffic Mine

December 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Using a tool like Web Analytics to analyze a website up to its root will not only give you real time comprehensive data, but it can also surprise you with its analysis of traffic generating keywords. What you are most likely to find is that traffic generated from untargeted keywords tends to outweigh traffic from targeted keywords. Now, do not let this discourage you from optimizing your website for top keywords. Rather, in addition to optimization you should also consider the benefits of using both short and long tail keywords.

Short Tail Keywords (STK) is the popular choice for webmasters in their quest to land visitors which generates traffic and leads. Generally, a website will be focused on 20-30 popular keywords that are used to search for a product relevant to a particular webpage. While there is nothing wrong with this practice, it should not be the only method employed.

Research has shown that Long Tail Keywords (LTK) can be more beneficial if it is used efficiently. Compared to STK’s, LTK’s are easier to rank, and the time it takes for popular keywords to break into the top 100 of SERPs, they would have already started to drive in a proportionately large amount of traffic to the website. Visitors arriving at a website using LTK searches are looking for a specific product for a specific need. As a result they are more likely to turn into a sale than others.

It is somewhat easy to generate long tail keywords. Just by using a combination of popular keywords, general meaning phrases, a call to action phrase, and geo specific phrases you can arrive at some good LTK’s. Top apple seller Kansas, best pizza maker Dakota, Dan Brown books at discount, etc are good examples of LTK’s.

Internet Marketing – Is This Holding You Back?

December 11, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

If you are just starting out with Internet marketing, the task may seem a difficult one. In order to succeed you have to keep trying. The main reason for failure in those who get frustrated or give up is that they do no stick to one thing.

Most new startups tend to get going with a product and then find that the sales are not flooding in as they expected it to. Therefore, they look for a quick solution: find some miracle product advertised by a guru and latch on to it. When the product fails to deliver, they follow the cycle repeatedly. By this time a competitor with the same initial product, who did not get discouraged, has plugged away patiently and started generating sales in vast quantities. His secret? Perseverance.

There are three reasons why jumping from product to product is detrimental.

1. Most of the internet gurus who suddenly appear are unreliable operations. What they sell you is a gimmick. Do not fall for it. Research, talk to people who use those products, and make your decision wisely, especially if this is the first product you are buying.

2. Every time you buy a product, you spend money. If the cycle continues, you end up spending money that you could put to better use.

3. You waste time. Time that could have spent productively trying to build your business (like the competitor described above) is wasted on trying to learn and promote new products.

The bottom line is if you stick to a proven business model, keep improving it and persevere. You will find better ways to promote your product and generate sales.

The cheapest and most effect Internet marketing strategy

December 11, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Strategy is crucial in Internet marketing efforts and a cost-effective strategy is even more crucial if you are a just starting out. While one choice is to try out different tactics and gain some personal experience the smarter choice is to do some research and pick the best strategy. This will save you time and money, which is more effective in pushing your product.

Article marketing, E-mail marketing, forum marketing, video marketing, etc are various ways of promoting a product. Of these, E-mail marketing is the cheapest and easiest strategy to follow. The reason for its success is that with almost little effort you have an avenue to push information selectively. Not surprisingly, this is a strategy that has been around for a longtime.

So how do you go about doing it? Create a page on your website that gives away a free product or guide. In return, ask people to leave their name and e-mail address. This is in effect your squeeze page. After you do this, keep driving traffic towards this page using article marketing, forum marketing, video marketing and even blog commenting.
Once you build up your e-mail database, pushing your product to those on the list is easy. Just send an e-mail and ask them to have a look at it. Build your relationship with those people and you will soon find that your conversion rates will increase.
