More than once in the six years that I have been providing SEO services for websites, I have had the opportunity to discuss with individual business owners their search engine optimization needs. Now and again, I run across an individual business owner who is quick to say that SEO is absolutely worthless. When confronted with such an absolute statement, I like to press for details. It has been my experience that people who speak in negative absolutes will have a horror story to share. In this article, I am going to detail some of the stories I’ve heard, which frequently tells more about some of the people in our industry, than it does about the effectiveness of search engine marketing. PROBLEM #1 – “I rank number one in Google, and yet, I have never earned a dime from my website…” When I first heard this story, I was very surprised… After all, if your SEO company did good keyword research, there is no reason why you should not be getting traffic and a few sales from a top ranking in Google.

I pressed for more details… I learned that the company who built the website also did the search engine optimization. It only took a couple of minutes to learn that the website design company optimized this fellows’ website for the name of his company.

Microsoft Updates Bing App for iPhone

Mac World reports that Microsoft has updated its Bing search engine app for the iPhone, focusing on improvement to geo-location features. Along with a new travel feature, the updated Bing app also includes map enhancements and a “nearby” feature for finding places to go near where a person currently is.

French Court Rules Google Guilty of Defamation

The AFP reports that Google and CEO Eric Schmidt have been convicted of defamation because of search results from its “suggest” feature, according to French legal affairs website legalis.net. According to Search Engine Land, this is the second time this year that Google has lost a lawsuit in France.

Outsourcing is very useful

If you are starting out in the world of affiliate marketing you may feel like you are drowning. This is understandable as very few of us possess all of the skill necessary to make this career path work perfectly from the start. You need to know how to design websites, do Search Engine Optimization, article marketing, social media marketing, design and write content etc. Physically and mentally, doing all of this is a draining task. Even if you are good at most of them, you should still consider taking the avenue of outsourcing.

Google Launches Tool to Track Online Government Censorship

As part of an ongoing effort to prevent censorship, Google launched yesterday the Transparency Report tool, allowing users to view where governments are demanding that Google remove content and where Google services are being blocked.
