The International Business Times reports that Internet industry analysts are reacting in a mostly positive manner to Google’s recent changes to their search engine technology. The publication pointed out that several leading financial analysts who watch the industry closely believe that Google Instant will help to increase Google’s leadership position in the space and differentiate itself from competitors like Microsoft Bing.

ComScore’s August 2010 U.S. analysis of the U.S. search marketplace shows that Google Sites led the explicit core search market with 65.4 percent of searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 17.4 percent. Microsoft sites came in at third place with 11.1 percent, followed by Ask Network and AOL LLC with 3.8 percent and 2.3 percent respectively.

Google Instant has also brought with it some apparent changes to the search engine algorithm used by the company. Fortune magazine editor Dan Primack has an interesting — if completely unsubstantiated– theory about what is happening. Primack told PC World that the algorithm changes might have been triggered by Google to drive traffic away from online content publisher Demand Media.

Microsoft Bing reached a major milestone for usage in August, the same month it officially became the technology which powers the Yahoo! search engine. According to PC Magazine, the latest statistics from The Nielsen Company show that Bing surpassed Yahoo! for the first time in August to become the second most-used search engine in the United States.

Google Instant Becomes Default Search Choice

The New York Times reported that Google Instant feature out of beta on Wednesday, bringing predictive searching to the masses. The new instant search feature predicts what a person’s Internet search queries will be as soon as they start typing and immediately brings back results which are updated as new characters are inputted into the search field.

AOL and Google Expand Search Partnership

AOL and Google announced on Thursday that they have come to an agreement to extend their Internet search advertising deal an additional five years ahead of the scheduled expiration of their current deal on December 19. The deal also expands the parameters of the current partnership to include mobile search and the placement of AOL videos on YouTube.

Microsoft Launches Bing App for Android Phones

Microsoft is entering Google’s mobile universe as it has launched the Android version of its Bing search engine for Google’s Android phones. The Bing app is now available for all Verizon Android phone users as a free download at the Android Marketplace. A Microsoft spokesperson told ZDNet.com that the company chose to roll out Bing on Verizon Android phones because of “the deep partnership with VZW on Bing search” and that the company was “working to make Bing available on the other mobile operators and their Android devices.”
