Now, in addition to racing downstairs to their stockings, children can follow Santa online on his annual trip from the North Pole to their chimney,” Brian McClendon, VP of engineering at Google Earth and Maps, wrote on the Google blog . “With NORAD Tracks Santa, children and families can watch Santa as he delivers presents all over the globe (with a little help from the North American Aerospace Defense Command). If you haven’t yet followed this tradition in your family, we’d like to invite you to join us this Christmas Eve.” The NORAD Santa tracking tradition began serendipitously in 1955 when a Sears department store ad placed in Colorado Springs newspaper featured a phone number that claimed to be a direct line to the big man himself.

Kindle fire selling well … possibly

December 2, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Amazon may have already sold millions of units of its new Kindle Fire tablet. However, no one knows for sure, and despite asserting that the Kindle Fire is the best-selling item on Amazon.com, the retail giant is keeping quiet about the number of units it’s actually sold. “Even before the busy holiday shopping weekend, we’ve already sold millions of the new Kindle family and the Kindle Fire was the bestselling product across all of Amazon.com,” Kindle VP Dave Limp said in a press release . “Black Friday was the best ever for the Kindle family – customers purchased 4x as many Kindle devices as they did last Black Friday – and last year was a great year. “In addition, we’re seeing a lot of customers buying multiple Kindles – one for themselves and others as gifts.” In the absence of information, market researcher eData Source has been tracking sales of the new iPad rival and has released an estimate of how well the tablet is selling

Chrome may soon have the upper hand in the browser wars, as the Mountain View browser closes in on Mozilla’s Firefox. Firefox and Chrome now account for 22.1 per cent and 18.2 per cent respectively – compared to Internet Explorer which holds a clear lead with more than 50 per cent of the browser market under its belt. “Firefox once was the prime challenger to Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, which for years languished in the doldrums of software development.

Bad Apples: Young biker gang arrested in Apple Store burglary

November 2, 2011 by publisher · Leave a Comment

A gang of Bad Apples have been arrested in connection with a robbery at Covent Garden’s Apple Store. Just days after Mr Jobs’s sad passing, Covent Garden employees arrived at work on the morning of 9 October to find that their shop had been plundered overnight by a gang of bikers. Tributes and memorials have been placed at Apple Stores all over the world in honour of the man who changed the face of personal computing. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, kind words, flowers and photographs were not the only things that employees at the Covent Garden Apple Store found. According to reports, police officers were alerted to the fact that a gang of seven moped riders and motorcyclists – most carrying pillion passengers – had smashed the storefront glass and “made off with fondleslabs and other similar devices.” All is not bad news, however. According to Channel Register , two suspects were apprehended at the time and have subsequently been charged with the Apple Store burglary. Additionally, a Met spokesman said it is understood the pair is connected to a wider gang of young burglars between the ages of 16 and 26 who are suspected in a spate of robberies across London. “Between 13 and 25 October, officers from Westminster executed a number of search warrants in connection with 48 burglaries of retail premises in central London and the theft of 35 high-powered motorcycles,” he said
