During the conference, Spotify’s new direction will be revealed to a group of specially invited journalists. 500,000 of the firm’s paying customers have signed on in the last two months, with the surge in growth partially attributed to the company’s US launch and its partnership with the social networking giant Facebook.

The last few weeks have also seen Spotify launch in countries such as Austria and Denmark. Spotify’s tie-in with Facebook has angered some users as listened-to tracks are put on their Facebook account new feed. They feel that they have been pushed into over-sharing against their will. They are also annoyed that all new users must have a Facebook account in order to sign up.

Web design guru Adobe has acquired Nitobi, makers of PhoneGap, and TypeKit, officials announced at the Adobe Max developer and designer conference. The new acquisitions will help Adobe move beyond its Flash Player technology and transition more seamlessly to new web standards including HTML, CSS and JavaScript. PhoneGap – an open source programming tool – allows users to create web apps designed for use on mobile phones. General Manager for Adobe Danny Winokur said: “PhoneGap is a fantastic solution for developing a broad range of mobile apps using the latest web standards, and is already integrated with Dreamweaver CS5.5. “It’s a perfect complement to Adobe’s broad family of developer solutions, including Adobe Air, and will allow us to continue to provide content publishers and developers with the best, cutting-edge solutions for creating innovative applications across platforms and devices. TypeKit, on the other hand, specialises in web-based typography, offering subscriptions to users that allows them to use TypeKit fonts on the web.

Google discusses why it’s its own worst enemy at Zeitgeist conference

To celebrate its 13th birthday, Google hosted its annual Zeitgeist conference to talk about the future and reflect on the future of the search giant. During the conference in Paradise Valley, Arizona, CEO and search mastermind Larry Page was asked what he feels is the biggest obstacle to the success of the company. His response? Google . “One of the interesting things that we’ve noticed is that companies correlate on decision-making and speed of decision-making,” Page said. “There are basically no companies that have good slow decisions. There are only companies that have good fast decisions. “So I think that’s also a natural thing as companies get bigger, they tend to slow down decision-making

Galaxy Tab disappears from orbit at IFA trade show
September 4, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment
Samsung has removed its Galaxy Tab from Europe’s biggest electronic fair, held in Berlin – the IFA electronics show. The tablet had been slated to make an appearance at the conference but was removed abruptly after a German court in Düsseldorf ruled in favour of Apple and ordered Samsung to halt sales of its Galaxy Tab 7.7. Each year, manufacturers from all over the world flock to the IFA trade show to display their latest products and attract European consumers. The ban comes as the latest in a line of setbacks for the South Korean technology manufacturer. Samsung and Apple have been locked in a bitter global patents dispute for months that has already forced Samsung to delay sales of its tablet in Australia twice. The argument came to blows in April, as Apple filed suit against Samsung for copying the design of its popular iPhone and iPad. Initially, Samsung responded to the lawsuit saying it was prepared to take “appropriate legal measures to protect our intellectual property.” Samsung then counter-sued Apple, claiming Cupertino infringed on Samsung’s wireless patents. The ruling in August initially placed a temporary sales ban on an earlier model Galaxy Tab 10.1 in 26 European Union countries, but was scaled back on jurisdictional grounds to only Germany
