WWW Birthday – A SPN Exclusive Article
December 13, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment
The 21st birthday of the World Wide Web is on December 25, 2011. This ‘coming of age’ WWW birthday marks the maturity of the first generation that was born with the Web and has always known it as an ordinary tool of life. This immeasurable gift to the world was created by Tim Berners-Lee (Sir Timothy John Berners-Lee) while working for a physics research center in Geneva, Switzerland. CERN, The European Organization for Nuclear Research, approved Berners-Lee’s request to work on a system which would facilitate collaboration among researchers via the Internet. “I invented the Web just because I needed it, really, because it was so frustrating that it didn’t exist,” said Berners-Lee in a 2009 interview with the BBC.

Don’t Have a Facebook Business Page? Why You Must Suck It Up & Create Your Facebook Business Page Today
November 18, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment
If kids, soon-to-be-adults and millions of not-so-young adults are your future audience, then you need to have a Facebook Business Page as you need to be where your audience is. And, today, our children, teens, young adults and even older adults like my former room mates and my ex (who deny they are addicted to Facebook) can be found updating their profile, commenting and changing their status updates regularly. The New York Times even wrote an article recently that showed kids are finding crafty ways to get around the increasing number of Facebook bans their schools are implementing. One eighth grader, who preferred not to be named, said he coached a school administrator on avoiding the ban last year. “She hated not being able to get on Facebook at work and asked for my help one day in the office,” the boy explained, more than a little sympathetic to her plight. “What could I do?” It came as no surprise to me, and it’s speaking volumes of the need for small businesses, as much as they want to continue down that stream of FB Denial, to get on board and create a Facebook business page. It is time for them to put themselves in front of this next generation of Facebook addicts. Need more proof? 5 Reasons Why You Must Setup a Facebook Fan Page Fast! 1) Kids, soon adults, and millions of young and not-so-young adults are your future audience and they are all there, “friending” Justin Bieber under their covers (like my daughter last night) when they should be asleep

Facebook fixes cookies when blogger raids the jar
September 27, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment
An Australian blogger revealed his investigation of Facebook’s use of cookies, claiming that they could be making it possible to track a user’s movements even once they have left the social networking site. Nic Cubrilovic passed the findings of his yearlong study into Facebook’s cookie usage onto the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), when he found that the cookies tracked users’ web browsing on other Facebook integrated sites. The OAIC then launched a report into whether such cookies are breaching privacy laws. “Logging out of Facebook only de-authorizes your browser from the web application, a number of cookies (including your account number) are still sent along to all requests to facebook.com. Even if you are logged out, Facebook still knows and can track every page you visit,” Cubrilovic blogged on Sunday , as he urged users to delete their Facebook cookies

Google discusses why it’s its own worst enemy at Zeitgeist conference

To celebrate its 13th birthday, Google hosted its annual Zeitgeist conference to talk about the future and reflect on the future of the search giant. During the conference in Paradise Valley, Arizona, CEO and search mastermind Larry Page was asked what he feels is the biggest obstacle to the success of the company. His response? Google . “One of the interesting things that we’ve noticed is that companies correlate on decision-making and speed of decision-making,” Page said. “There are basically no companies that have good slow decisions. There are only companies that have good fast decisions. “So I think that’s also a natural thing as companies get bigger, they tend to slow down decision-making
