Google launches ‘dynamic’ ads to match searches
October 20, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
Operating one of the largest platforms for advertising anywhere, Google has revamped its offerings yet again in an effort to benefit user experience and, potentially, sales generated by its pay-per-click (PPC) ads. Writing for the AdWords blog , Director of Product Management Baris Gultekin addressed the business benefits of the new offering by saying: “Dynamic Search Ads complement your existing keyword-targeted ads to help you sell more with less effort.” However, those with AdWords experience will know some degree of automation has been present in the platform for many years. And as the product’s still in limited beta , the full scope of benefits and drawbacks of the new form may have yet to be seen. The key of Google’s new initiative would see the search seraph keeping tabs on a business’s inventory, then automatically generating a PPC ad once a user enters a relevant query. Google algorithms would set to work and present a headline based on the search term as well as the ad copy that usually follows. “When users see ads and landing pages that deliver exactly what they’re searching for, they’re more likely to click and convert,” Gultekin said. “So it’s not surprising that we’ve seen solid performance in limited testing so far. But, as the process will be automated, PPC professionals would be remiss to count out the potential of misleading or incorrect advertisements being displayed, or the chance the new system could spew out gobbledygook on any given query.

Brand pages coming soon to Google+

Google’s coffers have been filling fast since the launch of Facebook rival Google+, and the firm looks set to cash in further as Vic Gundotra suggested brand pages will be coming soon to the fast-growing social network. According to CNet.com , Gundotra – Google’s senior vice president of engineering – told audiences at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco that brand pages would be coming to Google+ “imminently”. While sharing the stage with Sergey Brin – a Google co-founder, Gundotra added that brands have already expressed an “overwhelming interest” in establishing a commercial presence on Google+. Gundotra also let slip that Google+ will soon be available – “Not days … a little bit longer than days” – to businesses that use Google Apps. Google Apps, he said, now has 4 million customers. However, user levels are expected to spike sharply as corporations sign-up in a bid to get the most from Google+’s social, digital marketing and advertising offerings. Google+ is also expected to become more appealing to advertisers, marketers and brands over the coming year as Larry Page said the firm plans to use Google+ as a channel and G+ data to better personalise search and target ads

iPhone misses the mark in Apple quarterly results

Apple has fallen short of Wall Street expectations but easily beat their own forecasts, according to quarterly results . Despite selling 17.1 million iPhones in the past quarter, an increase of 21 per cent on the same quarter last year, sales failed to live up to those from Apple’s last quarter, where iPhone sales were above the 20 million mark 37 million mark. Apple users’ hopes were dashed when the iPhone 4S was unveiled in early October, featuring several internal upgrades to the existing smartphone model, rather than an entirely new product. Still, even in spite of the disappointing arrival of the iPhone 4S – and not, as many had expected, the iPhone 5 – the iPhone still lead the way in overall unit sales for the Cupertino capers. The technology giant also revealed record sales on its popular iPad tablets and Mac computers, with 11.1 million iPads shifted during the last quarter – a 146 per cent increase. The company posted quarterly revenue of $28.2 billion (
