Google announces TV partners ahead of CES

Google has announced its line-up of hardware partners for Google TV ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next week. Major television manufacturers LG, Samsung, Sony and Vizio were all among the list of partners – Sony has already released Google TV televisions and set-top boxes in the past, while at the CES last year Samsung and Vizio showed prototype models. Head of Google TV partnerships Mickey Kim wrote on the Google TV blog : “Google TV is about bringing new entertainment and innovation from the Web to TV and our team along with our partners are pleased to bring more Google TV powered products to more people.” Google TV had a lacklustre reception following its initial launch in 2010 – critics argued the interface was too complicated for users, and after a number of setbacks Google TV’s key supplier Logitech pulled the plug on its support for the project after reportedly losing more than $100 million (
