The event will be held next Wednesday on November 30 in the form of a solo press conference with Ek in New York. During the conference, Spotify’s new direction will be revealed to a group of specially invited journalists. 500,000 of the firm’s paying customers have signed on in the last two months, with the surge in growth partially attributed to the company’s US launch and its partnership with the social networking giant Facebook.

The last few weeks have also seen Spotify launch in countries such as Austria and Denmark. Spotify’s tie-in with Facebook has angered some users as listened-to tracks are put on their Facebook account new feed. They feel that they have been pushed into over-sharing against their will. They are also annoyed that all new users must have a Facebook account in order to sign up.

Apple is hoping to boost their cloud leadership, as the company shifts the way their customers store and access their digital content away from downloadable software. The Wall Street Journal reported the company has recently been looking to recruit new senior-level executives with experience in Web-based software. According to the Journal’s sources, Apple has approached at least one prominent Internet entrepreneur about a future position and recruiters have been informed about the company’s needs. The new recruitment drive indicates an interesting sea-change in Apple’s position as pioneers in hardware and downloadable applications. However, consumers more and more no longer want their entertainment tied only to specific devices, and Apple certainly wants to meet those needs.

The new recruitment drive indicates an interesting sea-change in Apple’s position as pioneers in hardware and downloadable applications. However, consumers more and more no longer want their entertainment tied only to specific devices, and Apple certainly wants to meet those needs. “We are going to demote the PC and the Mac to just be a device,” said the late Steve Jobs in June. “We are going to move the digital hub, the centre of your digital life, into the cloud.” With the introduction of services like iCloud, a cloud-based storage and syncing service, and the more recent iTunes Match, a feature that lets users store music in the cloud and have them available on any device with iTunes – Apple seems to be doing just that, and now needs the talent to follow suit. Recruitment experts believe Apple should be successful in luring Internet engineers from companies more traditionally associated with Web services, like Google and Facebook. They believe the company’s strong culture, high stock prices and low turnover make them an attractive choice for recruits

Adobe changes upset users

After announcing significant changes to pricing and subscription plans on Creative Suite (CS) products, Adobe users are fighting back and voicing their complaints. Earlier this month, Adobe quietly announced changes to its pricing model, introducing a new subscription component for Creative Suite products that will change the way the product is delivered for many users. Senior Vice President and General Manager David Wadhwani said in a blog post : “Our move to this membership model allows us to keep our customers up to date with the latest Adobe innovations in our tools and related services. “Creative Cloud will provide maximum flexibility, offer lower cost of entry, and add cutting-edge innovation on an on-going basis to keep our customers ahead of the changing technology and device landscape.” “There is a tremendous shift happening around content creation, distribution and monetization. The Adobe Creative Cloud initiative has the potential to transform creativity as designers and developers look to create the best experiences across devices and platforms, while integrating tablet devices and cloud-based services into their workflows.” Under the new model, Photoshop CS5 users will be able to upgrade to CS6 for a discounted fee – however, Adobe users working with Photoshop CS4 or lower will have to pay full price for the upgrade.
