Spotify suffered a blow last week as more than 200 labels pulled the plug on the music-streaming service. Small, independent labels in particular are rejecting the music streaming service, arguing their artists stand to lose, rather than gain, from making their music available online. “As a distributor we have to do what is best for our labels,” distributor ST Holdings said in a statement . “The majority of which do not want their music on such services. They provide poor revenue and have a detrimental [effect] on sales.

Google Dominates Search Engine Usage in Competitors’ Hometowns

Even in Microsoft’s back yard, Google still reigns as the top search engine. That’s what the Seattle Press-Intelligencer reports that recent findings by ad network Chitka suggest, as they found that Google represents 79 percent of all search engine usage in Redmond, Washington, home to the corporate headquarters of Microsoft. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Bing search engine accounted for 16 percent of all search engine usage – almost four times more than the national average but still far below that of Google.

New Collective Online Archive Tells Story of 9/11

In an effort to preserve the memories of 9/11, Google has announced the launch of Make History, an interactive website created by the National September 11th Memorial and Museum in collaboration with Google and design firm Local Projects. The new website is a participatory archive that allows people to share their experiences by uploading photos, video or written accounts of 9/11 and its aftermath.
