ComScore’s August 2010 U.S. analysis of the U.S. search marketplace shows that Google Sites led the explicit core search market with 65.4 percent of searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 17.4 percent. Microsoft sites came in at third place with 11.1 percent, followed by Ask Network and AOL LLC with 3.8 percent and 2.3 percent respectively.

Americans conducted 15.4 billion core searches in March 2010, up seven percent from February, according to recent data from comScore. Google Sites came in first place accounting for 65.1 percent search market share, down slightly from 65.5 percent in February.

Google Acquires UK Visual Mobile Search Engine Plink

The Guardian reports that Google has made its first acquisition of a UK company, purchasing visual mobile search engine Plink for an undisclosed sum. Founded by British doctoral students Mark Cummins and James Philbin, Plink analyzes images of well-known art and identifies them along with providing useful information. Users can share the information with friends and also choose to purchase posters of the artwork when available.

May Search Engine Rankings Released

Digital measurement firm, comScore, has released the May U.S. search engine rankings with its monthly qSearch analysis of activity across competitive search engines. In May 2007, Google Sites captured 50.7 percent of the U.S. search market, gaining one full share point from the previous month.
