Bing Continues Slow Market Gains in November

According to the latest figures from ComScore, Bing is slowly gaining market share on Google in the search engine space, but is still the runaway market leader. Google and Yahoo! both saw relatively flat numbers in search engine usage in November, while Bing continued its steady gains from recent months.

Yahoo! has launched a new service designed to give users advanced insights into search trends. PC Magazine reports that the popular search engine launched Yahoo! Clues on Tuesday, which gives users a snapshot of trends relating to popular search terms.

ComScore’s August 2010 U.S. analysis of the U.S. search marketplace shows that Google Sites led the explicit core search market with 65.4 percent of searches conducted, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 17.4 percent. Microsoft sites came in at third place with 11.1 percent, followed by Ask Network and AOL LLC with 3.8 percent and 2.3 percent respectively.

As part of the Yahoo! and Microsoft Search Alliance, Yahoo! announced yesterday that they have started testing organic and paid search listings from Microsoft Bing for up to 25 percent of Yahoo! search traffic in the U.S.

EU Regulators Blast Search Engine Data Collection Policies

The New York Times reports that European Union officials have accused major search engine providers such as Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft of violating user’s personal rights by storing private data for too long. The Article 29 Working Party, an EU advisory board made up of 27 European national privacy chiefs issued a letter to the three companies on Wednesday urging them to appoint outside auditors to ensure that practices used to render data collected from individuals anonymously truly removes all links to a person.

Yahoo! and Bing Finalize Partnership on Search Technology and Ad Revenue

The Daily Telegraph reported on Monday that Microsoft and Yahoo! have finalized a deal to combine search engine and online advertising efforts in an attempt to combat industry leader Google. The two companies had announced reaching an agreement in principle in July but had not yet been able to work out the details of the deal until recently.
