Facebook announced Monday it has paid over $40,000 to since launching its Bug Bounty Program last month. The incentive program is designed to reward users who identify bugs and report them to Facebook rather than taking vulnerable information public before the problem is fixed. Under the Bug Bounty Program, users who follow Facebook’s Responsible Disclosure Policy will be entitled to compensation starting at a minimum of $500. Facebook’s Chief Security Officer Joe Sullivan wrote : “This program has kicked off dialogue with a whole new and ever-expanding set of people across the globe in over 16 countries.” The Bug Bounty Program takes the next step in its Whitehat Responsible Disclosure Policy, providing even more incentive to tech-savvy users who come across bugs while on the social networking site. Now, in addition to receiving immunity against legal action, users who report bugs properly will be entitled to financial compensation.

The digital wallet wars begin between Visa and Google

August 26, 2011 by publisher · Leave a Comment

Back in May, both Google and Visa separately announced their intentions to produce a so-called ‘digital wallet’. Each firm’s digital wallet, it was proposed, would take the form of a smartphone app that stores credit card and rewards information which allows people to use their phones to pay for items with a single swipe. These digital wallets would utilise near-field communications technology, a form of short range wireless technology which will enable people to swipe their phone to make a payment, replacing the need to carry cards and a physical wallet. Although other companies are planning to produce mobile payment systems and digital wallets in future, Visa and Google will be the first to put their systems out on the market in the next few months. Google Wallet will be released at the end of summer and Visa’s as-yet-unnamed product will be rolled out at some point in autumn
