Google announced Wednesday that it has expanded its facilities in New York by purchasing property in the Chelsea district at 111 Eighth Avenue. The Wall Street Journal reports that according to sources familiar with the deal, the search giant purchased the building for close to $1.9 billion — representing the largest deal for a single building in the U.S. in 2010.

Microsoft and Yahoo! Partnership Expected to Get EU Approval

The proposed partnership between Microsoft and Yahoo! to combine search engine technology and advertising prowess appears to be one step closer to fruition as Reuters reports that European Union regulators are close to signing off on the deal. According to a source close to the situation, full and unconditional approval of the deal by the watchdog group the European Commission should come this Friday.
