Seeking to deliver on CEO Larry Page’s promise of a more social Google , the search seraph announced earlier today another new initiative to infuse social signals in search. Your World marks the third major revamp tooled toward social search in the approximately nine months since Page ascended the search throne atop Mountain View. “We’re transforming Google into a search engine that understands not only content, but also people and relationships,” Google Fellow Amit Singhal explained on the Official Google Blog . “We began this transformation with Social Search, and today we’re taking another big step in this direction.” Google’s three major plays with the revamp include finding results catered to individuals, and integrating the profiles of those with similar interest or who may be close to your social circle in results and autocomplete features. Your World also places Google+ pages related to search terms within easy reach for users to visit.

Facebook introduces private Page messaging

December 20, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Facebook is making it easier for brands and consumers to communicate with one another in private. The titan of the social network recently began rolling out a mechanism that will allow brands to communicate privately with consumers via their Facebook Pages. However, unlike with Twitter, where either party can initiate a direct message, Facebook will require the individual initiate the conversation. Using a “Message” button on a brand’s Page, consumers will be able to privately message companies – much like they currently do with their “friends”. Once that is done, though, the conversation is open to both parties. The feature will also allow brands to privately respond to comments or posts on their Pages. Social media has long been marketed as a tool for one-on-one engagement with customers, but has to date primarily been used as a one-to-many platform. Private Page messaging opens up the possibility for more effective one-on-one communication and a greater level of customer service on Facebook

Invite All Facebook Friends to Help Your Brand – A SPN Exclusive Article

December 5, 2011 by publisher · Leave a Comment

Can Facebook friends really help brands? The answer may be obvious to some, or not that obvious to others, but online marketers believe that brands doing social media marketing can gain plenty of benefits especially when they invite all Facebook friends of their fans to engage with them. This marketing strategy maximizes the reach of a brand, and globally if need be. Loyal consumers are what brands desire but one doesn’t become a loyal consumer overnight. It takes some time, and it starts at some point in time. Hence, brands must continue reaching out to new consumers and converting them to repeat consumers. Highly satisfied consumers could themselves advocate for the brand among their friends, a manifestation of the true value of Facebook friends to a brand. Yes, the value of a Facebook fan is not that easy to determine in terms of money, but attempts have been made by some companies to compute it. One social media marketing platform used the ratio of number of fans to wall posts, and came up with a low figure

Don’t Have a Facebook Business Page? Why You Must Suck It Up & Create Your Facebook Business Page Today

November 18, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment

If kids, soon-to-be-adults and millions of not-so-young adults are your future audience, then you need to have a Facebook Business Page as you need to be where your audience is. And, today, our children, teens, young adults and even older adults like my former room mates and my ex (who deny they are addicted to Facebook) can be found updating their profile, commenting and changing their status updates regularly. The New York Times even wrote an article recently that showed kids are finding crafty ways to get around the increasing number of Facebook bans their schools are implementing. One eighth grader, who preferred not to be named, said he coached a school administrator on avoiding the ban last year. “She hated not being able to get on Facebook at work and asked for my help one day in the office,” the boy explained, more than a little sympathetic to her plight. “What could I do?” It came as no surprise to me, and it’s speaking volumes of the need for small businesses, as much as they want to continue down that stream of FB Denial, to get on board and create a Facebook business page. It is time for them to put themselves in front of this next generation of Facebook addicts. Need more proof? 5 Reasons Why You Must Setup a Facebook Fan Page Fast! 1) Kids, soon adults, and millions of young and not-so-young adults are your future audience and they are all there, “friending” Justin Bieber under their covers (like my daughter last night) when they should be asleep

Ten Steps to Building a Loyal Readership – A SPN Exclusive Article

November 7, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Starting a blog from scratch can be intimidating. There are a countless number of established blogs on the web, and you must differentiate yourself to compete. These ten steps can help guide you on your way to penetrating the elite fraternity of professional bloggers, and building a loyal readership. 1. Have a Plan One of my favorite quotes comes from Lewis Carrol and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by way of the Cheshire Cat – “If you don’t know where you’re going, how do you expect to get there?” Decide early on what the specific goals of your blog might be. If you don’t outline your goals, you will risk writing meandering content that will lack focus. Write a detailed business plan and content schedule to avoid getting too far off track.
