Google and Mozilla remain friends – and competitors
December 22, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment
Recent research said Firefox users have higher IQs, so it appears that Google has made a smart decision to renew its search engine deal with Mozilla. The Mozilla Corporation recently announced it “negotiated a significant and mutually beneficial revenue agreement” with Google for the next three years. As a non-profit foundation, Mozilla relies heavily on the income generated by search partnerships. “Under this multi-year agreement, Google Search will continue to be the default search provider for hundreds of millions of Firefox users around the world,” said Gary Kovacs, Mozilla’s chief executive. Alan Eustace, Google’s senior vice president of search, commented: “Mozilla has been a valuable partner to Google over the years and we look forward to continuing this great partnership in the years to come.” The previous deal between Google and Mozilla, which was set to expire in November, had been signed before Google’s Chrome browser gained a presence in the so-called ‘browser war.’ Analysts heavily speculated Google would back out of the deal, as Chrome’s launch and subsequent growth put it in direct competition with Firefox, all while Google remained financially responsible for Mozilla’s survival. However, Whit Andrews, an analyst for Gartner, said Google’s decisions shouldn’t be all that surprising.

Is Google’s Advertising Destroying the Sanctity of Search Results? – A SPN Exclusive Article
December 19, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
A few months back, I wrote an article titled Google’s Panda Update: Haters, Cheaters and Consequences . The article was my defense of Google’s constant algorithm changes. In that article I naively wrote the following: “Unlike a lot of cynics out there, I believe that Google is trying deliver the most relevant and useful search results possible.” Well, I’ve always been a big enough man to admit when I’m wrong. And I was wrong about Google. Dead wrong. Like so many others, I too was fooled by Google’s clever sleight of hand. Let me explain

4 Ways to Make Sure You Beat the Competition in Local Search – A SPN Exclusive Article

Google Place Search (formerly known as Google Places) rules local search. Just try it. Go to Google and type in “Personal Injury Attorney Your City.” The first seven listings in the “natural search listings” are all Google Places pages. Since 20% of searches are local and the majority of their over $30 billion in revenue comes from small businesses, Google has decided to go hard after local small business advertising. They started by creating 50 million Google Places pages using aggregated data from online directories and the Yellow Pages. These pages are mobile optimized and attached to Google Maps. Only about 8% of local businesses have actually claimed their Google Place Search page. Even less have fully optimized their pages. However, this is changing fast

Scroogle, a Web service designed to allow for anonymous surfing of the Internet while using the Google search engine, has been restored to full functionality. According to PC World, the service was shut down earlier this week after Google instituted changes to a Google Search web page that apparently had the unintended effect of breaking the code needed to make Scroogle work. However, Scroogle engineers have been able to fix the code and as of Wednesday the service was up and running.

Google celebrates 11th anniversary with new Google Doodle
September 30, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
If anyone was confused by the extra “L” on the Google Search banner on Sunday, it wasn’t because a designer made an incredibly dumb typo and was probably currently shopping around his resume. The answer was actually quite simple: Monday was the 11th anniversary of Google, so the company decided to have some fun with its name plate and turn the “L” in its name into an “11.”
