The news industry has faced some massive struggles in recent years, and the online arena fuelling much strife for traditional outlets. With much news content available online and at no cost, it’s little wonder that news providers have been hunting for ways to monetise the service they provide online, as well as off. Now it seems that News Corporation is one step closer to making paid-for content a reality, as the organisation has acquired Skiff - an electronic reading platform. Rupert Murdoch’s news empire - which includes a large number of titles such as the The New York Post and The Wall Street Journal - has also invested in a company that was developing pay models for newspapers and magazines, reports the New York Times.

SeeSaw failing to grab video on demand market share
June 15, 2010 by publisher · Leave a Comment
According to new figures, SeeSaw, the latest video on demand platform has failed to reach even 1 per cent of the market. SeeSaw, formed from the remnants of project Kangaroo, was launched in February and currently has more than 3,000 hours of free and paid for TV programs. Some of the most popular shows it carries include ‘The Hills’, ‘Top Gear’ and ‘Gavin and Stacey’. Unfortunately however, despite offering a large selection of TV programs on demand, SeeSaw has failed to draw any real attention from viewers. Official figures show that so far, the new website has only attracted 200,000 viewers, which may seem like quite a large number, but is just over half a percent (.51per cent) of the video on demand market. SeeSaw is struggling to make a dent in a market dominated by well-known services who already have an established market base

Free Long Tail Keyword Research Tools
June 10, 2010 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Long tail keyword research tools are essential for small web businesses. You must put together collections of micro niches, each identified by a long tail keyword. You need to do long tail keyword research to find those niches of low competition keywords. You need to find a large number of keywords, the number of searches for them per day or month, and the amount of competition for the keywords. The competition, at minimum, consists of all those web pages containing the keyword. More detailed information would include the number of pages optimized for the keyword. You can get all this information for free on the web, from Google; although, there is software available that automates the process for you

Whether you’re promoting a business opportunity or selling tools and services from a sales page, you cannot hope to be profitable unless people visit your website. However, you must attract not just anyone, but visitors who are interested in the product, service or opportunity you are marketing. Why You Should Care About Web Site Accessibility
March 19, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
During a recent educational seminar conducted by a friend and business leader, the dialogue turned to the importance of web site accessibility. Incredulous, a seminar attendee inquired, “Why in the world would a blind person need a computer?” In the equally incredulous and reproachful commentary that followed, it occurred to me that there are probably a great many otherwise very bright and capable individuals who wonder the same thing. If you have never been exposed to someone who is blind and who makes efficient use of assistive technology to accomplish tasks, then how would you have the slightest idea what is possible? A few short minutes with a search engine can reveal a universe you might not have known existed.

Social networking giant Facebook has signed a new advertising deal with Microsoft to regain control of its display ads and integrate Bing more fully into the site’s search engine . Smart Company reports that Microsoft will continue to sell text-based search ads on the social networking site, but the decision was made to replace Microsoft’s banner ads with Facebook’s own as these were felt to integrate better into the site’s culture. Facebook’s banner ads target users based on information in their personal profiles, and the company stated that this move will provide better value to its nearly 400 million users.

Spezify sets new boundaries for visual search?
June 24, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Google may be the online king but it’s certainly had its fair share of mishaps during the first half of 2009. From problems with its malware detector in January - when every search result was deemed harmful to a user’s computer - to last month’s search outage due to traffic being re-routed to a data centre in Asia, it’s no wonder that Microsoft’s new search offering Bing is seeing rising user uptake. Add to that the recent coverage given to new players like WolphramAlpha, Hunch and the newly re-re-branded Ask Jeeves in the UK, and it looks like Mountain View may be surrounded by potential threats.
