Television Advertising For Every Business?
July 28, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Google’s TV Ad deal with Dish Network may have opened the door to advertisers that may have thought television was beyond their budgets. Late night TV placement has generally been fairly reasonable for accessing local markets but now Google brings major hits like “Mad Men,” “Real Housewives,” and “Rubicon” into play. Read David Goetzi’s post in MediaDailyNews, ‘Google TV Ads Pay Off For Summer Hits’ at http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=132747&nid=117019. Traditionally television advertisements are expensive to produce and even more expensive to run, but with new technologies and smaller boutique video firms, production costs have dropped substantially. It remains to be seen if Google’s auction system actually brings the cost down or if prices will quickly escalate beyond the reach of non-traditional TV advertisers. To my mind television networks better get their acts together and get their heads out of the clouds if they want to stall the inevitable migration of audiences to YouTube video programming on large screen TVs attached to a Play Station-like device and Internet connection. So why aren’t more businesses having branded entertainment content programming created to promote their businesses

12 Favorite and Little Known Tips for LinkedIn
July 12, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Most business professionals are on LinkedIn at this point. LinkedIn tells us that: LinkedIn has over 70 million members in over 200 countries. A new member joins LinkedIn approximately every second, and about half of our members are outside the U.S. Executives from all Fortune 500 companies are LinkedIn members. To me that states clearly that if you have almost ANY kind of business and are prospecting, LI will be a good resource for you. But just setting up a profile and dabbling once a week or so is not going to do much for your prospecting efforts. Below are a few tips that not many folks know about, but are powerful techniques for increasing your visibility and maximizing that “inbound marketing” that Social Media is known for. 1. Create 3 saved searches

Google has announced that all their non-search display advertising will be collectively called the Google Display Network from now on, replacing the existing Google Content Network. The new network covers Google display ads on Google Maps, YouTube, Gmail, Google Finance, Blogger and other ad partner sites. “Build it and they will come” the saying goes. Not. You can build a blog or video site and you can still be lacking connections. Connection is the nuclear core of social media. But you must make an effort in order for that to happen. Whether you have a social media home business, traditional brick and mortar business, or an online business, you must get into the social trenches and connect and converse. It is that simple and that plain. It is all about connecting and creating a magnetic conversation with people that draws them towards you. But why are people in social media not doing that

Yahoo! launches further integration with Facebook
June 6, 2010 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Yahoo! is set to launch new features integrating Yahoo .com and Yahoo! Mail further with Facebook , encouraging users to post actions taken on Yahoo! sites and associated services - such as Flickr - onto their Facebook wall. The Wall Street Journal reports that Yahoo! will also upgrade its Yahoo! Profiles service to include tabs for various social networks. Under the new name Yahoo! Pulse, users will be able to switch between these networks and access updates from their Yahoo! or Facebook profiles. These features are strengthening the extended partnership between Yahoo! and Facebook , launched last December, as Yahoo! accelerates its goal of becoming a more social site to hold the attention of its visitors. Although Yahoo! sites currently receive hundreds of millions of visitors each month, many of these do not hang around after viewing news stories or checking their email - instead heading over to sites such as Facebook to spend more time networking with friends . In a statement, Yahoo! explained that its partnership with Facebook was an effort “to give people one simple, trusted place to share information and connect. We think this offers great benefit to people across the Web, and it’s key to helping Yahoo! extend our reach and increase engagement.” Yahoo! is not the only side benefiting from the deal, however, as these new features are also helping Facebook in its campaign to encourage more sites to link to its services, achieving founder Mark Zuckerberg’s vision of a social web , extending user profiles across more major hubs and sites. Director of the Facebook Developer Network, Ethan Beard, said: “By integrating with Facebook on a global scale, Yahoo! is building upon an already valuable brand to give people easy ways to share the content they enjoy on Yahoo! with their friends on Facebook.” Digg | delicious | Reddit | Google | Twitter | Sphinn | StumbleUpon | YahooBuzz | Facebook | Mixx | Contact bigmouthmedia

Facebook makes privacy settings ’simpler’
May 25, 2010 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Facebook has announced it will revamp its privacy settings for all users later today, to make managing profiles simpler and more secure. The company will also hold briefings with the US Congress tomorrow to respond to recent criticisms of its privacy policy. The world’s leading social network site, which currently has more than 400 million active users, has faced much criticism over its privacy regulations , particularly after a recent blunder made it possible for users to view their friends’ private chats and pending friend requests. The website has also been criticised for making periodic revisions to its privacy policy that aimed to give users greater control over their personal settings, but were largely viewed as unnecessarily confusing.

Facebook privacy blunders to be investigated by FTC
May 7, 2010 by admin · Leave a Comment
Social networking giant Facebook has faced more criticism over its latest privacy lapse, which exposed some users’ private conversations to other people in their network. 15 organisations in the United States have banded together to file a complaint against the site with the Federal Trade Commission, as well as issuing a letter to Congress asking legislators to monitor the FTC’s progress. TechCrunch reported that the latest glitch occurred on Wednesday, when some users found they were able to change their profile settings in order to view their friends’ private chats and pending friend requests. A Facebook spokesperson said: “We worked quickly to resolve this matter, ensuring that once the bug was reported to us, a solution was quickly found and implemented.” But a quick fix may not be enough to tackle the larger issues of security, according to some privacy regulators who believe Facebook’s continuing dominance of the social web puts users at greater risk. Marc Rotenberg, executive director of the Electronic Privacy Information Centre, said: “Our view is that the FTC needs to act on consumer concerns about Facebook’s sloppy privacy and security practices.” This privacy group was one of the companies that wrote to Congress in a letter that stated: “Facebook continues to manipulate the privacy settings of users and its own privacy policy so that it can take personal information provided by users for a limited purpose and make it widely available for commercial purposes. “The company has done this repeatedly, and users are becoming increasingly angry and frustrated.” The social network has also been criticised for its new features, allowing third party websites to incorporate a ‘Like’ button so Facebook users can more easily share their tastes in everything from music to fashion with others in their social network. Facebook’s privacy headaches may be never-ending, but the company insists it treats such issues with the utmost importance
