Would You Rather Buy from a Person, or a Brand? We thought so. Most people would rather feel like they’re engaging with real people than with a faceless, nameless “brand.” That’s especially true in social media, where people readily express their opinions and personalities. So, how do you stay human on Twitter? Don’t be afraid to BE a human being on Twitter. Even if your company’s Twitter account has your company’s name, you can still project some personality. Notice that TravelOregon promotes its own content, while also responding to people and re-tweeting other people’s comments

During a presentation that I was giving at a small business owner’s boot camp, I was asked a very interesting question by one of the attendees: “I am targeting consumers and homeowners – how can LinkedIn help me as it’s a B2B social media network? Should I be focusing just on Facebook which is more consumer oriented? And, if I should be on LinkedIn, how can I best utilize it to help me obtain more business and clients?” My Answer to How Retailers That Are B2C Companies Can Use LinkedIn Marketing One of the biggest advantages of using LinkedIn if you are a B2B business is being able to access targeted prospects. Now, it’s quite difficult to do that if you are a B2C company as business professionals are there for these purposes: * Build and cultivate profitable relationships * Get the information they need to develop However, that doesn’t mean you should not be using LinkedIn marketing and just stick to Facebook and Twitter. Use Facebook and Twitter to build your community of prospects – but use LinkedIn marketing to attract these three audiences that can double your sales guaranteed: 1. Media Professionals – A recent study showed that 92% of all journalists are on LinkedIn which is more than any other social networking site

Social Networks and Privacy: Learning From Facebook’s Mistakes
January 2, 2012 by publisher · Leave a Comment
Observers of Internet trends often pronounce that privacy is a fiction and that it is futile to try to reclaim it. Whether that perspective is correct or not does not matter when faced with a Complaint issued by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The Facebook Complaint and Consent Order recently issued by the FTC provides valuable lessons for how to stay out of the FTC’s crosshairs. Internet attorneys, businesses, consultants and advisors should study what the FTC views as deceptive in order to make necessary adjustments to business plans and operations. In the U.S., there is no federal law that requires a website to have a privacy policy. However, California requires any website that collects personally identifiable information from California residents to have a privacy policy

The New Part Played by Social Media in SEO
December 22, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment
When most people start planning SEO for their website I can bet you a large proportion of them get stuck when it comes to really understanding what part social media has to play in SEO. Social media often lags further down the priority list behind SEO for a variety of reasons, mainly a lack of clarity as to what benefits it will actually bring and the fact that it’s often difficult to relate a tweet or Facebook message to a return on investment whereas with SEO, for example, website owners can more easily attribute a growth in sales to new rankings for key-phrases. However, the way that social media has evolved means that it now plays a much more important role in search engine optimization. Searches are now taking into account the reputation of websites as reflected in social media sites to determine rank. What Content do Users want to Share? A more common occurrence nowadays is the placing of social networking buttons alongside pages and various pieces of content within the website.

Google releases Zeitgeist
December 15, 2011 by creative · Leave a Comment
The world is obsessed with Rebecca Black, Google + and tragic daredevils – according to this year’s global search activity. Google has released its 11th annual Zeitgeist report on the year’s fastest rising global queries, sharing a list of ‘hot topics’ that dominated the minds of users worldwide. Topping the list of ‘fastest rising’ global search terms was web celebrity and singing teen sensation Rebecca Black, followed closely by social networking newcomer Google +, daredevil and reality star Ryan Dunn, controversially acquitted mother Casey Anthony, and first person shooter game Battlefield 3 – each respectively in the top five spots of the global Top Ten. As usual, cultural trends, fads and famous people dominated the global search lists, including queries about cupcakes, future “i” devices – iPad 3 and iPhone 5 for example – celebrity families, and high-profile weddings. However, the year’s global events from revolutions to natural disasters also influenced people’s googling habits. Google Fellow Amit Singal wrote on the Google blog : “Google was used for much more than staying up to date on the sisters Middleton and Kardashian. “From local celebrities in Finland to Singaporeans looking for news on the revolutions in Egypt and Libya half a world away, people turned to Google to learn more about what was happening on the world stage. “It wasn’t just the man-made moments that topped the charts this year, but also the natural disasters that literally shook the world, from Hurricane Irene in the U.S.

While one hand giveth Android 10 billion downloads , the other taketh away with a thousand malicious apps. The number of Android apps containing malware has doubled to 1,000 in the last six months, according to mobile security firm Lookout. The company’s recently released report “Malwarenomics: 2012 Mobile Malware Predictions” stated: “2011 has seen the emergence of a credible field of Android malware with a 4 per cent yearly likelihood of an Android user encountering malware, which was a significant increase compared to the beginning of the year. In the beginning of 2011 we measured a 1 per cent yearly likelihood.” The company, however, has indicated that the majority of the malicious content is found on third-party apps and other alternatives to the official Android Market. Regardless, Android users have found themselves with a growing risk of unknowingly clicking on links that can lead to malware and phishing sites. The report added: “The global yearly likelihood of an Android user clicking on an unsafe link is 36 per cent (6 per cent higher than July 2011).

The good folks of Spotify are certainly changing things up. Last week they announced the addition of music based apps to their service, and now they’re taking on Pandora. “We’ve built a radio app on top of our platform,” said Spotify co-founder and Chief Executive Daniel Ek during his announcement at LeWeb. “It’s kind of like Pandora, but with unlimited skipping and unlimited stations.” Up until now, Spotify has only allowed subscribers to play the specific songs or albums they chose. With stations, users can now choose a category and let Spotify do the picking. And, the unlimited skipping is likely to be a big draw. In contrast to Pandora – where skipping is limited due to the fact that they pay music labels by the song – if subscribers dislike the Spotify song choice they can skip to the next one as many times as they like. According to the company’s official blog post: “Starting a radio station is easy. Click ‘Start Artist Radio’ at the top of any artist page or just drag a track to ‘Radio’ in the left sidebar

You don’t have to be handicapped to be different, ’cause everybody’s different. -Kim Peek This article is part of a group of posts focused on optimizing ROI in Twitter use. There are a great deal of Twitter users adopting a policy of consistent branding and positioning carried across from other Webspaces, e.g. Websites, eStorefronts, etc., by employing customized Twitter backgrounds.
