A lot of business owners are now performing an employment background check on everyone who applies for a job. Here are some tips that an employer can use when they are considering someone for employment.

Include any work locations – This is where people spend most of their time during the day.  Any kind of background check should include criminal background checks for employment in this kind of area too.

  • Credit check – If the person who is applying for the job is going to be making the company’s financial decisions, or the person’s credit’s applicable to their job, it’s a good search to do. This type of report doesn’t include account numbers or a score and it’s not going to impact the credit file of the person.
  • Get birth dates – It’s a good idea to request the person’s birth date and SSN information on the release form. This is going to help it be separate from the application for employment.
  • Get names of co-workers and supervisors – Departments frequently are only going to give out basic information – the date the person started and the date they left the company, title, and other things.  If you are able to get the supervisor’s name, they’re less restrictive when it comes to the information they’ll provide.
